HonestMED is a not-for-profit site, funded through contributions and
some advertising revenues, but NOT funded by any medical,
pharmaceutical, or other commercial interest.
We at Honest Medicine see as our mission the promotion of honesty and
ethics in health care. For too long, the doctor has been viewed as a
"god", and the patient as incapable of managing their own health care.
We at HonestMED want to help provide the pathway for patients to take
complete responsibility for their own health and well being. By providing
fundamental information previously not easily accessible by individuals,
we can develop steps to live healthy lives. Also, by learning to develop a
plan, individuals can address health care issues ranging from daily diet
and exercise, to how to best manage their health insurance. HonestMed
is developing a site that will link advice on choosing a pleasant,
knowledgeable physician and/or a state of the art medical facility for
respectful medical treatments. We also intend to address issues
regarding patient's long term care in their senior years, and a way to
address their passing; a subject greatly neglected by most medical
agencies.
We as patients have basic rights which must be respected and enforced
no matter where we live on planet Earth. The medical and drug
"industry" spend millions of dollars to spoon feed information and
manipulate data to advance the success of their products. We need to
act as watchdogs to help alert patients and our families to prevent the
tide of dishonesty that often drives corporations and individuals who feel
they are beyond reproach. There are many in health care who support
the patient's right to receive the highest quality care at a reasonable cost.
We intend to provide information on all aspects of health care and to
encourage everyone to develop and follow their own health care plan.
On occasion, there are grounds for complaint and even malpractice
suits. We will strive to provide the information to assist patients in
understanding their rights for medical malpractice, litigation, and
information for seniors, such as DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), Living Wills
(Advanced Directives) and euthanasia to help educate patient for a
peaceful and respectful passing.
HonestMed is very interested in sharing patient experiences in an effort
to help others understand and discuss serious medical situations. The
free Wiki-pages linked to each of our Specialty Pages enables comments
and discussion on a world wide basis, that respects opinions and input,
yet safeguards individual privacy and identity.
Our main goal is to provide a safe and secure means for patients to
maintain and access their individual health care record in the new age of
electronic data storage. EHR, or Electronic Healthcare Records, are
being developed by many large hospital groups in league with major
computer firms. Our concern is that control of records is linked to the
power base of these combined hospital systems, and it is certain that
they do not like to share power and information. Our goal is to provide a
simple method based on the fundamental principles of HTML and the
3WC. Utilizing the latest safeguarding technology of 128 bit encryption,
we propose to offer a way for the world to store and access their
personal health information.
We hope that through our efforts, the world can learn to share
information, technology and medical research. We deserve, as do our
children, the very best that science and medicine has to offer and we
hope others will join us in the quest for truth and honesty in Medicine.
Sincerely,
