A&D Ointment
A&D Original Ointment is the multipurpose skin protectant families and caregivers reach for when skin needs a moisture barrier and a little help healing. Formulated with lanolin and petrolatum, it locks in moisture and shields raw or irritated skin from wetness and friction — the everyday causes of diaper rash, chafing, and minor scrapes.
The classic A&D Original Ointment, 4 oz. tube (40101) is the size most people keep on hand: enough for regular diaper-changing routines without being unwieldy for a diaper bag or bathroom shelf. Parents use it at the first sign of redness to prevent rash from setting in; adults reach for it on dry, cracked hands, elbows, and heels, and after minor cuts, burns, or scrapes to keep the area covered while it heals.
A common question is how A&D differs from a zinc oxide cream. A&D Original is a ventilated barrier ointment — it protects and soothes while letting skin breathe, which is why it's often used for prevention and early irritation. Heavy zinc oxide pastes tend to be reserved for rash that's already developed. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin as needed; a little goes a long way.
Note that "A&D" also appears in several unrelated medical brand names. If you were looking for something else, you may want Imodium A-D and Children's Imodium A-D for anti-diarrheal relief, Nizoral A-D anti-dandruff shampoo, or A&D Medical for home health monitors.
