Adaptic Non-Adhering Dressings

The pain of a dressing that sticks to a healing wound is exactly what Adaptic was designed to eliminate. This collection brings together two proven approaches from the Adaptic line: the classic petrolatum-impregnated cellulose acetate mesh and the newer Adaptic Touch silicone technology. Both share the same job — creating a protective, non-stick contact layer between the wound bed and your outer dressing — so removal doesn't disrupt new tissue or cause bleeding and trauma.

The original Adaptic Non-adherent Dressing (cellulose acetate mesh coated with a petrolatum emulsion) is a longtime standard for a reason. Its open-weave design lets exudate pass through into an overlying absorbent pad while the greasy coating keeps the mesh from bonding to the wound. It's a versatile pick for skin tears, abrasions, donor sites, lacerations, and first- and second-degree burns. We stock it in the 3" x 3" square (2012) and the larger 3" x 8" rectangle (2013) for longer incisions and limb wounds.

For fragile or sensitive skin, 3M Adaptic Touch Silicone Dressings offer a gentler alternative. The soft silicone contacts the wound and surrounding skin without adhering to the moist wound bed, so it can often stay in place through several outer-dressing changes — reducing how frequently the wound is disturbed. Choose the 2" x 3" (TCH501) for smaller sites, the 5" x 6" (TCH503) for mid-size wounds, and the 8" x 12.75" (TCH504) for larger areas.

Which one is right? If cost and a familiar workflow matter most, the petrolatum mesh is dependable; if you're managing periwound skin breakdown or want less frequent, atraumatic changes, Adaptic Touch silicone earns its place. Both are sterile and sized to trim as needed.
