Dakin's Half Strength Antimicrobial Wound Cleanser is designed for use both pre- and post-surgery; wound management; wound irrigation and cleansing; preventing and treating infections of the skin and tissue; and as a wetting agent for wet-to-moist dressings. It is also effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms including viruses, bacteria, yeasts, and molds (fungi), and since it is a topical antimicrobial that is effective upon contact, it is ideal for use on cuts, abrasions, and skin ulcers. Plus, since it is effective locally (it does not need to rely on a patient's circulatory system or systemic delivery), there are less systemic side effects.
