BD Angiocath Peripheral IV Catheters

When you're establishing venous access, the choice of catheter comes down to flow rate, gauge, and reliable insertion — and the BD Angiocath line is a longtime clinical standard for exactly those reasons. This collection features BD's over-the-needle peripheral IV catheters built with FEP polymer, radiopaque for easy visualization under imaging, and color-coded by gauge so the right size is identifiable at a glance.

Selecting a gauge is really a decision about what you're infusing and how fast. The 18-gauge green Angiocath (86 mL/min, ref 381144) is a versatile workhorse for routine fluids, medications, and blood products. When rapid volume matters — trauma, surgery, or aggressive resuscitation — the 14-gauge orange catheters (ref 381164 at 1.16", ref 382268 at 3.25") deliver up to roughly 295 mL/min, while the large-bore 10-gauge tan catheter (609 mL/min, ref 382287) is reserved for high-flow situations. The longer 3" and 3.25" lengths help reach deeper vessels where a standard-length catheter falls short.

Every catheter here uses a straight plastic hub with a stainless steel introducer needle, in the non-ported, non-safety configuration many facilities specify for their existing IV workflows. The FEP polymer material is chosen for smooth vessel entry and reduced kinking during dwell, and the radiopaque construction lets you confirm placement radiographically when needed.

Because these are the standard (non-safety) versions, they're often purchased alongside dedicated sharps-handling protocols.
