Hollister CalciCare Calcium Alginate Dressings

CalciCare is Hollister's line of calcium alginate wound dressings, designed for moderately to heavily exuding wounds where managing drainage is the daily challenge. These dressings are made from high-G (guluronic acid) calcium/sodium alginate fibers that react with wound fluid to form a soft, conformable gel. That gel holds exudate away from the wound bed while keeping the environment moist enough to support healing — the balance clinicians look for when treating pressure injuries, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot wounds, and surgical or donor sites.

A common question with alginates is how much they can handle and how they come off. CalciCare's high-G construction gives the dressing more wet strength than lower-grade alginates, so it tends to lift out in one piece rather than leaving fibers behind — an important detail for cavity and tunneling wounds. On drier wounds an alginate isn't the right pick; these belong on wounds with meaningful drainage.

This collection includes the 4" x 8" CalciCare pad in both standard and reinforced versions — the reinforced format adds tensile strength for packing deeper or irregular wounds where removal integrity matters. For wounds with infection risk or heavy bioburden, the 2" x 2" CalciCare with Silver combines the same absorbent alginate matrix with ionic silver for antimicrobial action, arriving sterile and non-adhesive without a border so it can be secured with your choice of secondary dressing.

All CalciCare dressings are non-adhesive and require a cover dressing or wrap to hold them in place. Choose the size closest to the wound dimensions, packing loosely rather than overfilling.
