Carrasyn Wound Care

Carrasyn is a line of hydrogel wound dressings built around acemannan, a compound derived from aloe vera. These products are used to manage a range of wounds—including pressure ulcers, diabetic and venous stasis ulcers, first- and second-degree burns, skin tears, and surgical wounds—by maintaining a moist environment that supports the body's natural healing process.

The appeal of a hydrogel like Carrasyn comes down to moisture. Wounds that dry out slow down; a hydrogel donates moisture to dry tissue while helping soften and lift necrotic debris, which supports autolytic debridement without harsh intervention. That makes it a common choice for wounds that need gentle, ongoing management rather than aggressive treatment—and a familiar name to clinicians and caregivers alike.

Carrasyn is typically offered in a few forms to match wound depth and drainage. Amorphous hydrogel in a tube or spray is easy to apply to shallow, irregular, or hard-to-reach areas and fills tunneling or undermined wounds. Impregnated gauze combines the hydrogel with a wound-contact layer for packing deeper cavities. Choosing between them usually comes down to how much a wound weeps and how deep it runs—hydrogels are best suited to dry to lightly draining wounds, and heavily exudating wounds generally call for an absorptive dressing instead.

For most applications, a secondary dressing is needed to hold the hydrogel in place and protect the site. Amorphous forms are also convenient for daily or every-other-day dressing changes, and many caregivers appreciate that aloe-based gels are non-cytotoxic and gentle on fragile peri-wound skin.
