CMC Controller Plus Thumb Brace
Pain at the base of the thumb — right where it meets the wrist — is the hallmark of CMC joint osteoarthritis, and it turns everyday actions like turning a key, opening a jar, or pinching a pen into small ordeals. The CMC Controller Plus thumb brace is built to address exactly that joint: it stabilizes the carpometacarpal (basal) joint while leaving the fingers and wrist free to move, so you can keep using your hand while offloading the joint that hurts.
The brace works by supporting the thumb in a functional position and limiting the painful side-to-side and pinching motions that aggravate the CMC joint. A hook-and-loop strap closure lets you dial in the amount of compression and support, and adjust it through the day as swelling or activity changes. The low-profile black design fits under a glove or stays discreet in the workplace.
Fit is hand- and size-specific, so ordering the correct one matters. We carry both left-hand and right-hand versions in two size ranges — Small/Medium and Large/X-Large — for example the 2804-RT-S/M for a right hand or the 2804-LT-L/XL for a left. To choose your size, measure the circumference of your hand around the widest part of the palm (excluding the thumb); if you fall between ranges, most wearers size to the more secure fit. Match the version to the hand you'll be bracing, not your dominant hand.
These braces are commonly recommended for CMC osteoarthritis, thumb strain, and mild instability, and can be worn during aggravating tasks or overnight, depending on your clinician's guidance. Because they immobilize only the basal joint, they're well suited to people who need to stay active — gardeners, tradespeople, office workers — rather than fully splinting the hand. If you're managing thumb pain long-term, ask your provider whether nighttime wear or activity-only use fits your recovery plan.
