Comprilan Compression Bandages

Comprilan is a short-stretch cotton compression bandage from Essity (BSN) used in the management of lymphedema, venous leg ulcers, and chronic edema. Unlike long-stretch elastic wraps, short-stretch bandages have limited extensibility — they produce a firm, high working pressure when the muscle contracts against them during movement, and a low resting pressure when the limb is still. That combination is exactly what clinicians look for when building compression therapy that a patient can wear day and night.

The 100% cotton weave is what makes Comprilan a mainstay in multilayer bandaging. It's washable and reusable, holds its shape through repeated applications, and the clip closure keeps the ends secure without tape or pins. Because it contains no rubber or latex-based elastic threads, it's a common choice where those materials are a concern.

Choosing the right width

Comprilan comes in graduated widths so you can match the bandage to the anatomy you're wrapping, and most protocols use more than one size on a single limb. This collection carries the standard range:

2.4 in. x 5 yd. (6 cm): toes, feet, and slim ankles where fine contouring matters.
3 in. x 5.5 yd. (8 cm): the workhorse width for lower legs and forearms.
3.9 in. x 5.5 yd. (10 cm): calves and larger forearms.
4.7 in. x 5 yd. and x 10.9 yd. (12 cm): thighs and larger limbs; the longer roll reduces the number of bandages needed on a big limb.

All are tan, non-sterile, and supplied with clip closures. For effective compression the bandage is applied over padding, most often with a stockinette liner and foam or wool to protect bony prominences and even out pressure. Rewrap when the bandage loosens rather than waiting a fixed interval, since short-stretch material relaxes as edema reduces.
