Conformant 2 Wound Contact Layer Dressings
When a wound needs a non-adherent barrier between the wound bed and an outer dressing, Smith & Nephew's Conformant 2 line does exactly that job — and little else, which is the point. This perforated polyethylene contact layer sits directly on the wound, lets exudate pass through to a secondary absorbent dressing, and lifts away at dressing changes without pulling at fragile new tissue. For clinicians managing burns, skin tears, donor sites, lacerations, and other shallow to moderately draining wounds, that low-trauma removal is the difference between protecting granulation and disrupting it.
This collection carries the Conformant 2 range in its two working forms. The Conformant 2 Wound Contact Layer Dressing (4 x 4 in., sterile, ref 5955044) is the pre-cut square most reach for on smaller, discrete wounds. When you need coverage over larger or irregular areas — grafts, extensive burns, or awkward anatomy — the Conformant 2 Wound Veil comes in 12 x 12 inch and 12 x 24 inch sterile sheets that you trim to fit. All are transparent and air-permeable, so the wound stays visible for assessment and can breathe without the contact layer trapping moisture against intact skin.
A common question: does it stick? No — that's by design. The polyethylene mesh conforms to the wound surface without adhering to it, so it needs a secondary dressing and tape or a bandage to hold it in place and manage drainage. It also won't shed fibers into the wound, unlike gauze laid directly on tissue. Change frequency depends on drainage and clinical protocol, but because the contact layer itself can often stay put while only the outer dressing is refreshed, you disturb the wound bed less overall.
Conformant 2 is a single-use sterile product; once the pouch is opened, plan to use it. Match the size to your wound plus a margin, and pair it with the absorbent and securing products your protocol calls for. If you're building out a broader dressing stock or supporting patients with other ongoing care needs, our related supply categories can round out the order.
