Critic-Aid Moisture Barrier Ointments & Skin Paste
When a patient is dealing with incontinence-associated dermatitis, denuded skin, or persistent moisture exposure, the barrier you choose has to do more than sit on the surface — it has to protect compromised skin and stay put through cleansing and repositioning. Coloplast Critic-Aid is a professional-grade line built for exactly these situations, trusted across long-term care, wound care, and home caregiving for managing skin breakdown that ordinary petroleum jellies can't handle.
The line splits into three formulations, each matched to a different degree of skin compromise:
- Critic-Aid Clear Moisture Barrier Ointment (7566, 7567) — a dimethicone and white petrolatum formula for intact-to-early-breakdown skin. It's transparent, so you can inspect the skin without wiping the barrier off, and it's CHG-compatible for use alongside chlorhexidine antiseptics.
- Critic-Aid Clear AF with Antifungal (7571, 7572) — the same clear, CHG-compatible barrier with 2% miconazole nitrate added, for skin fold and perineal areas where candidal (fungal) rash accompanies moisture damage.
- Critic-Aid Skin Paste (1944, 1947) — a thick zinc-oxide paste that adheres even to denuded, weeping skin where ointments won't hold. This is the choice for serious breakdown and heavy incontinence output.
A common question is which to reach for: use the ointment for prevention and mild irritation, the AF version when fungal infection is suspected, and the paste when skin is already broken and needs an adherent protective layer. Tube sizes range from 2-ounce to 6-ounce, so facilities can stock bulk while home users buy only what they need.
Critic-Aid works best as part of a full skin-integrity routine — pair it with gentle cleansing, and keep it stocked alongside your First Aid and First Aid Kits & Accessories supplies for comprehensive skin and wound care at the bedside.
