When a wound produces more drainage than a standard gauze pad can handle, frequent changes become the norm — and every change disturbs healing tissue and raises the risk of maceration to the surrounding skin. DryMax Extra super absorbent dressings from MPM Medical are built for exactly these high-exudate situations, locking fluid away from the wound bed and the periwound so you can extend wear time and protect fragile skin.

The performance comes from the layered construction: a polypropylene facing, a sodium polyacrylate super absorbent core, cellulose pulp, and a polyolefin backing. Sodium polyacrylate is the same superabsorbent chemistry used in the most demanding fluid-management products — it converts free-flowing exudate into a gel and holds it under compression, so drainage does not track back onto the skin or strike through the outer layer. These are sterile, single-use dressings intended as a primary or secondary absorbent layer.

Choosing the right size

DryMax Extra is stocked in two common sizes. The 4" x 8" pad (MP00701) suits smaller draining wounds, linear incisions, and areas where a longer, narrower pad fits best. The 8" x 8" dressing (MP00702) covers larger surface wounds, pressure injuries, and heavily exuding ulcers. Match the pad footprint to the wound plus a margin of intact skin, and secure it with a retention bandage, tape, or wrap since these dressings are non-adhesive.
