Exuderm Hydrocolloid Dressings

Exuderm by Medline is a family of hydrocolloid wound dressings built for moist wound healing on partial- and full-thickness wounds, pressure injuries, and lightly-to-moderately exuding areas. Hydrocolloid dressings work by absorbing wound fluid and forming a soft gel over the wound bed, keeping it moist while sealing out contaminants. That sealed environment supports autolytic debridement and can be left in place for several days, which means less frequent changes and less disruption to fragile new tissue.

Two Exuderm lines cover most clinical situations. Exuderm Satin is a thinner, more flexible hydrocolloid that conforms well to contoured areas like heels, elbows, and the sacrum, making it a common choice for stage I–II pressure ulcers and superficial wounds. It's available in sizes including 6" x 6" (MSC5466) for broader coverage. Exuderm OdorShield adds odor-controlling technology to the same reliable hydrocolloid base, which matters for wounds that produce noticeable smell—an issue that affects patient dignity and caregiver comfort. OdorShield comes in square formats (MSC5588) and larger 6" x 6" sheets (MSC5566).

Choosing between them usually comes down to two questions: how much odor management the wound needs, and how much flexibility the location demands. For discreet, everyday coverage, Satin is often enough; for draining wounds where odor is a concern, OdorShield is the practical upgrade. Both offer waterproof, bacteria-resistant outer layers so patients can bathe without compromising the seal.
