Hypafix
Hypafix Dressing Retention Tape
When a dressing needs to stay put over an awkward area — a knee, an elbow, the small of the back — a strip of ordinary tape rarely holds. Hypafix by Essity is a soft, non-woven polyester retention tape that secures dressings across broad or contoured surfaces without cutting into skin. You cut it to any length or shape, so a single roll covers everything from a small wound edge to a full IV site or post-surgical dressing.
The whole line shares the same skin-friendly, breathable construction; what changes is width and roll length. The 2-inch widths (4209, 4215) suit narrow dressings and finger or wrist work. The 4-inch (4210, 4216) and 6-inch (4211, 4217) sizes are the go-to for larger dressings, drain sites, and areas that move. The 10-yard rolls (4209–4211) make sense for clinics and frequent dressing changes, while the 2-yard rolls (4215–4217) are a practical size for a home first-aid supply or occasional use.
A few things buyers usually want to confirm: Hypafix is non-sterile, so it's used as a secondary retention layer over a sterile dressing rather than in direct contact with an open wound. It's latex-free and porous, letting the skin breathe to reduce maceration under the tape. It conforms well and removes with less pulling than plastic tapes, which matters for fragile or elderly skin — though as with any adhesive, slow removal and a skin-prep barrier help sensitive patients.
