BD Insyte Autoguard Peripheral IV Catheters

For clinicians placing peripheral IV lines, the BD Insyte Autoguard series pairs reliable cannulation with a passive needlestick safety design that helps protect against accidental injury. A push-button mechanism instantly retracts the needle into the barrel, containing the sharp before it ever leaves the sterile field and reducing blood exposure during insertion.

Every catheter in this range is built on BD Vialon biomaterial, which softens at body temperature to help extend dwell time and reduce phlebitis and vessel irritation compared with older FEP catheters. The notched, radiopaque cannula and stainless steel needle support smooth threading and easy X-ray visualization once placed.

Selection here follows standard color-coded gauge conventions, so the size you need is easy to identify:

  • 24 Gauge (Yellow), 0.75" — 20 mL/min flow, ideal for neonatal, pediatric, and fragile-vein adult access (ref. 382512, 381412).
  • 22 Gauge (Blue), 1" — 37 mL/min, a versatile choice for routine infusions and most general patients (ref. 382523).
  • 20 Gauge (Pink), 1" and 1.16" — up to 63 mL/min for higher-flow therapy, blood products, and contrast (ref. 382533, 381434).

The collection includes both straight and winged plastic hubs, letting you choose the securement style that best fits your taping technique and patient anatomy. The BC (Blood Control) models add a septum that limits blood flashback and leakage after the needle retracts, keeping the insertion site cleaner during hub connection.

All configurations are single-use and non-ported, designed for straightforward line setup with your preferred extension sets and connectors. If you're comparing introducer options for guidewire or midline placement, see the related Introsyte Autoguard collection to complete your vascular access supply list.
