Iodosorb Cadexomer Iodine Wound Gel

For wounds that stubbornly resist healing — chronic venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, and infected surgical sites — Iodosorb works differently than a standard antiseptic. Its active ingredient, cadexomer iodine, is built from tiny starch-based beads that draw excess exudate, bacteria, and debris up out of the wound bed while slowly releasing a low, sustained level of iodine (0.9%). That controlled release is what sets it apart: enough antimicrobial action to reduce bioburden, without the cytotoxic hit of a strong iodine flush.

The visible sign that Iodosorb is working is the color change. The gel starts a warm tan-brown; as the iodine is spent absorbing fluid and neutralizing microorganisms, it fades toward gray or pale yellow. When the color has largely gone, the dressing has done its job and it's time to reapply — a simple, built-in reminder for both clinicians and caregivers managing wounds at home.

Choosing between the tube sizes

We carry two sterile tube sizes so you can match the product to the wound rather than waste gel or come up short:

Iodosorb Cadexomer Iodine Gel, 10 Gram Tube (6602124014) — ideal for smaller or shallower wounds, and for patients or nurses who reapply frequently and prefer minimizing open-product waste.
Iodosorb Antimicrobial Gel, 0.9% Iodine, 40 Gram Tube (6602125040) — sized for larger or more heavily exuding wounds, or facility settings where a bigger tube stretches further across multiple dressing changes.

Apply the gel roughly 3mm thick over the wound bed, cover with a secondary dressing appropriate to the exudate level, and change when the gel loses its color or the dressing is saturated — typically every one to three days. Iodosorb is not recommended for patients with iodine sensitivity, thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto's, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so confirm suitability with the treating clinician.
