Leukomed Sorbact

Leukomed Sorbact combines a sterile island dressing format with Sorbact bacterial-binding technology, giving clinicians a single product that covers, protects, and actively reduces the microbial burden at the wound surface. The dressings are designed by Essity/BSN medical for closed surgical incisions and clean or lightly exuding wounds where infection prevention is a priority.

What sets Sorbact apart from conventional antimicrobial dressings is how it works. Rather than releasing an active agent such as silver or iodine into the wound, the green Sorbact contact layer uses a hydrophobic (DACC) coating that physically binds bacteria and fungi on contact. When the dressing is changed, the bound microorganisms are lifted away with it. Because there is no chemical release, the technology is well suited to patients with sensitivities, and it can be used across all stages of healing without a recognised risk of resistance.

Buyers most often ask whether Leukomed Sorbact can stay in place after surgery: the low-adherent contact layer and breathable, water-resistant film backing allow patients to shower while the incision remains protected, and the absorbent pad manages the light drainage typical of a closed wound. The soft, skin-friendly adhesive border holds securely without irritating fragile peri-wound skin, and the transparent film supports comfortable, flexible wear over joints and body contours.

These dressings are a practical choice for post-operative incision care, minor surgical wounds, and prophylactic use in patients at higher risk of surgical site infection.
