Mefix Dressing Retention Tape

Mefix is Mölnlycke's self-adhesive, non-woven retention tape designed to hold dressings, tubing, and devices in place without the pull and residue of traditional cloth or plastic tapes. It's the tape clinicians reach for when a dressing needs to stay put across an awkward area — a shoulder, an abdomen, a knee — while still moving with the patient and staying gentle on skin that may be fragile or frequently re-taped.

What sets Mefix apart is the spunlace polyester backing: it's soft, breathable, and conforms to body contours, so it flexes rather than lifting at the edges. The skin-friendly acrylic adhesive secures firmly but releases cleanly, which matters for elderly, pediatric, or post-surgical patients where repeated dressing changes can damage the skin barrier. Because it's supplied on a roll, you cut only the length and shape you need — a real advantage over pre-cut products when securing irregular wounds or large secondary dressings.

This collection covers the full width range so you can match the tape to the job. The 1-inch roll is ideal for securing tubing, small dressings, or IV lines; 2-inch and 4-inch widths handle standard wound coverage; and the 6-inch (with perforated liner for easy handling) and 8-inch widths are built for large post-operative sites, abdominal dressings, and areas needing broad, uninterrupted coverage. Every width comes in 11-yard rolls, non-sterile — appropriate for retention over an already-dressed wound rather than direct wound contact.

A common question: how do you remove it comfortably? Because the adhesive is skin-friendly, Mefix peels back slowly with minimal trauma, and warming or a silicone-based remover eases stubborn areas. For sensitive or compromised skin, many clinicians pair it with a barrier film underneath.
