Melgisorb Calcium Alginate Dressings

Melgisorb by Mölnlycke is a highly absorbent calcium alginate dressing built for moderately to heavily exuding wounds — pressure injuries, leg and foot ulcers, surgical wounds healing by secondary intention, and cavity wounds that need packing. On contact with wound fluid, the alginate and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) fibers gel to lock in exudate, support a moist healing environment, and help minimize maceration of the surrounding skin. Because the entire range is non-adhesive and supplied without a border, these dressings conform to the wound bed and lift away with less trauma at dressing changes, which matters when you're managing fragile or painful tissue.

The Melgisorb Ag line adds ionic silver for wounds that are infected or at high risk of infection. As the alginate gels, silver is released to provide sustained antimicrobial action against a broad range of wound pathogens — a practical choice when bioburden is slowing progress. Clinicians reach for these when a plain alginate isn't enough but they still want the absorbency and gelling behavior alginate is known for.

This collection covers the sizes and formats that real wound care demands. The 2" x 2" (255050) and 4" x 4" (255100) Melgisorb Ag pads handle smaller superficial and moderate wounds, the 6" x 6" sheet (255150) suits larger exuding areas, and the 8" x 12" (255200) covers extensive wounds. For sinus tracts, undermining, and deep cavities, the 1.5" x 18" Melgisorb Ag rope (255600) packs loosely without leaving fibers behind.

All dressings are sterile, single-use, and typically covered with a secondary dressing to secure them and manage overflow exudate. Change frequency depends on exudate level and your facility's protocol. Explore more options across our Wound Care collection to build a complete dressing regimen.
