Mextra Superabsorbent Dressings
When a wound produces more exudate than a standard pad can hold, the problem isn't just leakage — it's the risk of maceration, frequent dressing changes, and skin breakdown around the wound margin. Mextra Superabsorbent Dressings from Molnlycke are built for exactly these highly exuding wounds, drawing fluid up and away from the skin and locking it into a polyacrylate core so it stays off the wound bed and off surrounding tissue.
The polyacrylate absorbent layer traps exudate even under compression, which matters for venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, and other chronic wounds where compression bandaging is part of the plan. A water-repellent film backing on every Mextra dressing helps keep fluid contained rather than str4iking through to clothing or bedding — a practical advantage that extends wear time and cuts down on how often the dressing needs changing.
Each dressing in this collection is sterile and ready for direct wound-contact use or as a secondary absorbent layer over a primary contact dressing. Sizes are chosen to match wound footprint and drainage volume:
- 5" x 5" (610000) — a square blue/white format for smaller, moderately draining wounds
- 5" x 9" (610200) — a versatile mid-size option for common wound dimensions
- 7" x 9" (610300) — added surface area for wounds with higher output
- 9" x 11" (610400) — maximum coverage for large, heavily exuding wounds
Sizing to the wound rather than overpadding helps you get reliable absorption without wasted material. All variants share the same core technology, so you can step sizes up or down as drainage evolves through healing.
