Multidex Wound Dressings

Multidex by DeRoyal is a maltodextrin-based wound care line used to support healing in a wide range of open wounds — pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, first- and second-degree burns, abrasions, donor sites, and post-surgical incisions. Formulated with maltodextrin NF and ascorbic acid (vitamin C), Multidex works by drawing nutrients and cellular activity to the wound bed, encouraging granulation while helping manage light drainage. It's a straightforward, non-toxic option for clinicians and caregivers who want to keep the wound clean and moist without antibiotics or antimicrobials.

The line comes in three formats so you can match the product to the wound. The Multidex Gel (46-710 in a 1/2 oz tube, 46-711 in 1/4 oz single-use packets) is ideal for wounds with minimal drainage and for areas where a gel is easier to apply and stays in place. The Multidex Wound Dressing Powder (46-702, 25 gram) and Multidex Wound Filler Powder (46-701, 45 gram tube) suit deeper or more exudating wounds, where the powder can be layered to fill dead space and absorb moisture. All formats are sterile and non-impregnated, so they layer cleanly under a secondary dressing.

A common question: how do you apply it? Clean the wound per protocol, apply enough gel or powder to lightly cover the wound bed, then cover with an appropriate secondary dressing. Reapply with each dressing change — typically when the secondary dressing becomes saturated — building the powder up as needed on heavier-draining wounds. Because Multidex contains no numbing agents or medication, it can be used alongside most standard wound care regimens.

Choosing between gel and powder mostly comes down to drainage and depth: reach for the gel on shallow, drier wounds and the powder or filler when you need to absorb exudate or pack a cavity. Stock a mix if you manage a variety of wound types across a facility or home care setting.
