Medline Optifoam Foam Dressings

Optifoam is Medline's line of hydrophilic polyurethane foam dressings built for absorbing moderate to heavy exudate while keeping the wound bed at the right level of moisture. Whether you're managing a pressure injury, a venous leg ulcer, a surgical site, or a skin tear, the foam draws fluid away from the skin and locks it in the dressing core, helping prevent maceration of the surrounding tissue. That balance is why clinicians reach for foam over gauze on wounds that weep.

The range covers the choices you'll actually make at the bedside. Adhesive-with-border versions like the 4" x 4" Optifoam (MSC1044EP) come with a gentle securing border, so you don't need separate tape — ideal for wounds on flatter surfaces where you want an all-in-one dressing. Optifoam Basic non-adhesive pads, including the 4" x 5" rectangle (MSC1145) and the fenestrated 3" x 3" square (MSC1133F, notched to fit around drains and tubes), let you use your own securement and pair well with compression under wraps.

For wounds that are infected or at risk of infection, the antimicrobial Optifoam Ag and Ag+ dressings incorporate silver to reduce bioburden in the dressing. The Ag adhesive version (MSC9604EP) combines silver with a self-adhesive border, while the Ag+ non-adhesive 4" x 4" (MSC9614EP) suits clinicians who prefer to secure the dressing separately over a fragile periwound.

All Optifoam dressings ship sterile. Wear time varies with drainage, but foam typically stays in place several days between changes, cutting down on nursing time. Match the pad size to your wound plus a margin of intact skin, and choose adhesive versus non-adhesive based on skin fragility and how you plan to secure it.
