PureWick Urine Collection System

For anyone managing incontinence at night or caring for someone who can't easily get to a bathroom, the PureWick system offers a non-invasive alternative to absorbent pads, indwelling catheters, and the sleep disruption that comes with frequent changes. Developed by BD, it uses gentle, low-pressure suction to draw urine away from the skin the moment it's released, wicking it into a collection canister and keeping the wearer dry through the night.

The heart of the setup is the BD PureWick Urine Collection System (PW100), the reusable unit that houses the vacuum pump and canister. It works together with the soft, flexible PureWick Female External Catheters (PWF030) — external, non-sterile, single-patient-use wicks that rest against the body rather than being inserted, which is why many people choose this over an indwelling catheter to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections. For the kit-based configuration, the PWF030K female catheter is designed to pair with the PWKIT03 setup.

Because the catheters are external and disposable, replace them regularly — typically every 8 to 12 hours or when soiled — to protect skin integrity and keep the wick performing. One size fits most, and the design is intended for female anatomy. The system is popular both at home for caregivers and in long-term care settings, where staying dry lowers the risk of skin breakdown and pressure injuries.

Stocking up on replacement catheters is the practical part of ownership: the pump unit lasts, but the wicks are consumables.
