Renalcal Renal Nutrition Formula
Renalcal is a specialized, calorically dense tube-feeding formula developed for patients with acute or chronic kidney failure, particularly those who are not yet on dialysis and need to limit protein, electrolytes, and fluid volume. When kidneys can't clear waste efficiently, standard formulas can overload the body with potassium, phosphorus, and sodium — Renalcal is built to avoid that, delivering concentrated calories in a small volume so patients meet their energy needs without straining renal function.
Each 8.45-ounce ready-to-use carton provides 500 calories, giving 2.0 calories per milliliter. That high caloric density is the point: it lets clinicians and caregivers deliver adequate nutrition while keeping total fluid intake low, which matters when fluid restriction is part of the care plan. The formula is unflavored and designed primarily for enteral (tube) feeding, though it can also be used for supplemental oral intake when directed.
