Sporox II
Sporox II High Level Disinfectant
Sporox II is a 7.5% hydrogen peroxide high level disinfectant and sterilant used for reprocessing heat-sensitive semi-critical and critical medical devices — endoscopes, probes, and similar reusable instruments that can't tolerate autoclaving. For sterile processing techs, endoscopy suites, and clinics managing their own instrument turnaround, it offers an effective alternative to glutaraldehyde-based solutions without the pungent aldehyde odor.
We stock the Sporox II Hydrogen Peroxide High Level Disinfectant, 1 gallon jug (item 75156). The 7.5% hydrogen peroxide formulation carries a mild peroxide scent rather than the harsh fumes associated with glutaraldehyde, which matters in enclosed processing areas where staff work with the solution repeatedly through the day.
Two questions come up most often with high level disinfectants, and both come down to your facility's protocol. First, contact time: high level disinfection and sterilant claims depend on the exposure duration and temperature specified on the product labeling, so confirm your cycle against the manufacturer's directions and your instrument reprocessing instructions. Second, solution life — hydrogen peroxide disinfectants have a defined reuse period once activated or opened, and should be monitored with test strips to verify the minimum effective concentration before each use. Log your dates and test results; that documentation is what surveyors ask for.
Store the sealed gallon jug in a cool, well-ventilated area away from incompatible chemicals, and follow OSHA and manufacturer guidance for PPE — gloves and eye protection — when handling concentrated peroxide. Ordering by the gallon keeps a working supply on hand for busy reprocessing schedules.
For surface and equipment cleaning between procedures, many facilities also keep Citrus II products on hand alongside their high level disinfection supplies.
