ThumbSPICA Thumb Splints

A sore, unstable thumb makes everything harder — gripping a coffee cup, turning a key, texting. ThumbSPICA splints are built to immobilize the thumb's CMC and MP joints while leaving your fingers and wrist free to move, so you can rest the joint that hurts without shutting down your whole hand. They're a common choice for de Quervain's tenosynovitis, thumb osteoarthritis, sprains, and post-injury recovery.

The key thing to get right is side and size. These are hand-specific: order a left splint for a left thumb, a right for a right. We carry dedicated left and right options in Small/Medium (79-87114, 79-87113) and Large/Extra Large (79-87118, 79-87117) so the support lines up properly along the thumb column rather than fighting your anatomy. If you're unsure of sizing or need something more forgiving, the one-size-fits-most versions in Volara and standard foam adjust across a wide range and are worth a look.

Comfort matters when you're wearing a splint for hours. The lightweight foam construction breathes better than rigid plastic and stays comfortable against the skin, while hook-and-loop and elastic contact closures let you dial in a snug, secure fit and loosen it as swelling changes through the day. The abducted-thumb designs hold the thumb in a natural, functional position instead of pulling it flat.

All ThumbSPICA models are intended for single-patient use — a hygiene consideration worth noting if you're outfitting more than one person or replacing a splint that's seen heavy wear. Choose the fixed left/right sizes when you want the most anatomically precise fit, or a one-size option when convenience and adjustability take priority.
