Mepitel Silicone Dressings may be used on traumatic wounds; skin tears and abrasions; surgical incisions; partial-thickness burns; painful skin conditions with blisters; lacerations; traumatic wounds; diabetic, venous, and arterial ulcers; wounds in the granulation phase; and for the fixation of grafts. Mepitel can be left in place for up to 14 days depending on the condition of the wound thus reducing the necessity for frequent primary dressing changes, and its porous structure allows exudate to pass into an outer absorbent dressing. The Safetac layer prevents the outer dressing from sticking to the wound and ensures atraumatic dressing changes, and it also seals around the wound edges to prevent exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin which minimizes the risk of maceration.
