Delta-Dry Cast Padding
Delta-Dry is a water-resistant undercast padding engineered for one thing patients ask about constantly: can they get the cast wet? With Delta-Dry, the answer is far more forgiving than with traditional cotton padding. The synthetic material doesn't hold water the way cotton batting does, so patients can bathe, shower, and — when the physician approves the cast construction — even swim, without the trapped moisture that leads to skin breakdown, odor, and maceration.
The core product here is the Delta-Dry Cast Padding Undercast in a 2 in. x 2.6 yd. roll (item 7344300), a white, non-sterile synthetic wrap applied directly against the skin beneath a casting tape. Because the fibers wick and release water rather than absorb and hold it, the padding dries quickly after immersion, keeping the skin underneath healthier over the weeks a cast stays on.
Clinicians pair Delta-Dry with a compatible water-resistant fiberglass casting tape to build a fully water-friendly cast — cotton liners and standard tapes will defeat the benefit. It's most useful for pediatric patients, active adults, and anyone whose lifestyle or hygiene needs make a fully waterproof-capable cast worth the extra material cost. Proper technique still matters: smooth, wrinkle-free application with adequate overlap protects bony prominences and prevents pressure points.
Delta-Dry belongs to BSN Medical's broader casting family. To complete a water-resistant cast, look at the fiberglass tapes in Delta-Lite Plus and Delta-Lite Conformable.
